R&B trio A.R.T release “Die From A Broken Heart” this Thursday, a reworked version of the Maddie & Tae classic featuring Tiana Miti of Wellington band MITI, born out of a cover that blew up online.

The story behind A.R.T’s latest single starts somewhere most artists wouldn’t expect a record to come from: a phone camera and a guitar. The trio posted a cover of Maddie & Tae’s “Die From A Broken Heart” online with no plan with to it, and the response was strong and strong enough that what was meant to be a one-off turned into something worth finishing.

That’s the version dropping this Thursday, now built out with A.R.T’s signature harmonies and a guest verse from Tiana Miti, whose main project MITI has already picked up award recognition out of Wellington. The pairing gives the track an Aotearoa spin on a genre A.R.T isn’t typically associated with, an R&B trio leaning into country instrumentation rather than away from it, with Miti’s vocals sitting alongside their harmonies.

The single also lands as part of A.R.T’s First Thursdays campaign, which has had them releasing new music on the first Thursday of every month throughout 2026. That kind of release schedule isn’t common for independent acts to sustain, and it means “Die From A Broken Heart” isn’t a standalone drop so much as the latest entry in a year-long run the group has been building publicly, one that’s given fans a reason to check in every month.

What makes the track worth paying attention to isn’t just the collaboration, it’s the path it took to exist. Most “cover into original” releases are marketing moves. This one wasn’t, it was fans deciding a cover deserved a bigger life than a single post, and the artists agreeing.

“Die From A Broken Heart” is out Today.
